I know, I know… Last weekend it was all about the Stoics and the wise philosophers and today? Today we stick to the era, but we go to some other quotes from the famous big actors of the Punic Wars. For those who need a short refresh of their history, this was the war between Rome and Carthage. The clash of the two superpowers across the Mediterranean Sea. Yes, I am reading a lot of history books and listening to history podcasts lately. Guilty! ✌️😁

It is Wednesday after all, so let us dive in. There is so much we can learn here! 👇👇👇

Quote 1:

“We will either find a way, or make one.”

- Hannibal Barca (Carthaginian general who challenged Rome)

Nowadays we talk a lot about balance… work-life balance, relationship balance, eating habits balance, etc. Do not get me wrong, I am all for balance. Well, most of the time… However, there are times in life, specific situations, that ask for just brute force and aggressiveness to get things done.

It is like a lion that just takes it easy in the shade, resting, observing, not reacting. However, when it is time to move, the full might and strength take place. There is action and nothing else.

Think.
Observe.
Calculate.

But when you move, act without hesitation.

Quote 2:

“Victory is born in preparation long before the battle.”

- Scipio Africanus (Roman general who defeated Hannibal)

There are so many different ways to pass on the core of this message. It is the work we put in long before any success becomes obvious that counts. The daily grind, early mornings, and working weekends, a lot of those and then some more. This is the only way to get an edge.

Prepare.
Expect issues going forward.
Be humble and patient.

And before you know it, the effort will come to bear fruit. Stick with it!

Quote 3:

“Lasting power is built with patience, not pride.”

- Hanno the Great (Carthaginian statesman rival of Hannibal)

Key concept here is ego. We all have it more or less present, it is a human thing after all. However, being aware of yours and taking control over it can be such a powerful tool in all that you do in life. Just imagine this: things happen, stressful situations, annoying people… Still, you have the power to keep emotional distance. You keep the power of how you react in your hands.

Do not react.
Do not get emotional.
Do not allow people to take control over your reactions.

Remember that true power lies in patience and control.

If this message resonated with you, don’t keep it to yourself.
Share it with someone who could use a spark this week.
Let’s lift each other up. 💛

On a personal noteWhen I was a kid I was so easily rattled and emotionally disturbed by the things that were happening around me. I would not say much and I would not do much about it, but inside of me I was fuming. Others might have realized this, or potentially not, but I know what was happening inside of me.

With time, as I grew, I realized people are actually really interesting. Everyone is acting out of their own interests, and that is completely fine. It is, in the end, natural when you think about it. Taking this into account, I stopped taking things personally. And trust me, it is so freaking liberating!

It took them about 2,000 years, but hey, I guess better late than never… 😂🤣
