Still Insecure? Good!😌👌

Here’s how to turn that feeling into fuel

Today’s word count: 670 words

Are you insecure? I know I am…

Hell, I’m pretty sure everyone is — at least in certain areas of their lives. Insecurity is such a deeply human emotion, tied closely to our very existence, yet we rarely talk about it openly or see it in a positive light.

I want to change that today and argue that insecurity can actually be your driver. I mean, if it’s already there, why not use it?

Quote 1:

“Insecurity and ambition make a powerful cocktail.“

- Michael Ovitz (Co-founder of CAA, media mogul)

What drives you? What makes you itch? What makes you do the things you do?

This can be a number of things — some positive, some negative. However, at the end of the day, it’s the outcome that counts.

If we look at the public lives of some of the most successful people in the world, we'll see that insecurity is a massive driver.

Insecurity to succeed — because they were failures before.
Insecurity to be slim — because they weren’t as children.
Insecurity to be rich — because they grew up poor.

As someone once said: the enemy of great is the good.

Tap into your insecurity and use it as fuel. It burns as strong as the sun — and it will follow you anywhere you go.

Quote 2:

“Self-doubt is the thing that drives you to improve yourself.”

- Helen Mirren (versatile, bold, award-winning British actress)

We often treat self-doubt like a flaw — something to silence or overcome. But what if it's actually fuel? That doubt isn’t weakness — it’s a signal. A nudge to keep learning, keep sharpening, keep striving.

The most refined steel gets forged in the hottest fire.

So the next time you question yourself, don’t back off. Lean in. That discomfort might just be your edge.

Quote 3:

“We didn’t come to take part. We came to take over.”

- Conor McGregor (fearless Irish UFC champion)

Insecurity doesn’t have to hold you back — it can be the very reason you go all in. McGregor wasn’t born confident. He built it. Brick by brick. Fight by fight. Doubt by doubt.

He came from humble beginnings as a plumber’s apprentice in Dublin, collecting welfare checks while chasing a dream most laughed at. That hunger? That edge? It came from not feeling like he belonged — until he made sure he did.

So next time insecurity whispers "You're not enough," lean in and roar back.

"I didn’t come to take part. I came to take over."

On a personal note I was so insecure as a kid and felt like no one understood me, accepted me, or saw me for the potential that I was sure was lying within me. And what did I do with it?

I found my strength and leaned into it 100%! I found my channel — which was rowing — and did my best to prove to myself and those around me that I am worth it. That I can be great at something. That I can be a world champion.

And the outcome of it all? I did it. I became a three-time world champion and a world record holder in rowing.
And all of that — thanks to my insecurity and perseverance.
