Motivation is Overrated. Do This Instead❗
Why habits will take you further than any dopamine hit ever will.
Today’s word count: 653 words

It’s not the big moments. It’s the small ones.
The truth is, who we become isn’t shaped by a single decision, a burst of motivation, or one grand act. It’s built — quietly and consistently — in the little choices we repeat every day.
For the longest time, I thought I needed more motivation to change. But I’ve come to realize: it’s not motivation I lack — it’s systems.
And systems are built on habits. The tiny, boring, unsexy things we do when no one is watching.
Let’s dive into it.

P.S. There’s a poll at the end of this email—so don’t forget to exercise your right to vote ✌️
📢❗🚨 Voting this week is supper important to me! 📢❗🚨
Quote 1:
“Time will multiply whatever you feed it. Good habits make time your ally. Bad habits make time your enemy."
- James Clear (author, habit expert and speaker)
II feel like we often see time as something that's constantly moving — working against us. Time passes and you get older. Time slips away and takes moments you barely noticed.
But here’s the truth: time can actually work for you.
When you build good habits, time becomes your ally.
Whatever you repeat, time will multiply — and that can either build you or break you.
So stop waiting. Start building.
Make time your friend.
Quote 2:
"Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most."
- Abraham Lincoln (U.S. president, emancipator, unifier, orator)
Discipline is often seen as something reserved for the military or for some hardcore people most of us can’t relate to.
But if you really think about it, discipline is nothing more than showing up — day in and day out — and casting a vote for the person you want to become.
That means every choice you make is a vote: either for what you want now or for what you want most.
And just like in any democracy… the majority wins.
Quote 3:
"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going."
- Jim Ryun (Olympian, congressman, record-setter)
How often have you had that moment where you’re all hyped up about a goal?
Day one: effort at 1000%! This time, it really feels different — like this is the one that’ll finally stick.
Day two: you’re still on track, but the energy isn’t quite the same.
Day three: you're already slipping — not meeting the standard you set for yourself just days ago.
The message is clear: motivation comes and goes.
It’s the habits that keep you going when the hype fades.
On a personal note — I used to be a national team rower for over 16 years, which meant full-time focus and energy dedicated to my sport. Although I became a multiple-time world champion, my day-to-day lifestyle was seen only by my closest family.
Standing on top of the podium and receiving a gold medal at the world championships feels incredible — that’s true. But the real work happened in silence, through unsexy, repetitive daily grind.
If I had waited to feel motivated before putting in the work, I would’ve never achieved anything.

Personally super relatable 😅

Feeling like making moves? — How to set up a new habit
Identify one single habit you want to implement in your life.
Break it down into the smallest possible step — something you can do in 2 minutes or less.
Connect the new habit to something you already do daily.
(Example: I do 5 push-ups right after brushing my teeth.)Important: Make the habit so ridiculously easy that resistance doesn’t even stand a chance.
